Bus Air Conditioning Installations

The shop manager will drive the bus into the installation area and mark the appropriate location for the equipment being installed. Depending on the bus style, size, and additional equipment that needs to be installed by the manufacturer, the locations may vary. Our team will customize the layout to ensure the most efficient bus AC installation.

Our team accesses the appropriate area via cutting or drilling to facilitate routing harnesses and hoses through protected holes. Hoses are routed from the engine area to the condenser and the evaporator. The wiring harnesses are routed to the correct location along with the hoses. Both the harnesses and hoses are secured to reduce damage throughout the life of the system. Throughout the interior, the appropriate trims are installed and secured.

Following the layout, our team will locate the most viable position for the condenser. The condenser could be skirt or roof-mounted, depending on the system we are installing. During the installation of the condenser, the hoses and wiring are connected and secured.

Our team continues to follow the layout and locates the evaporators in the bus according to the equipment requested. Evaporators are located in the bus’s front, rear, and mid-ship per customer requirements. Evaporators can be flush-mounted in the front and rear bulkhead and suspended from the interior roof, utilizing a bracket-attached body structure. The mid-ship is suspended only.

The Trans/South installation team will make the appropriate electrical power connections to the battery, utilizing fuses directly connected to the battery in most cases. We will also complete and activate connections to the bus electrical systems for safety and other components. Controls are dash-mounted or placed for ease of access by the driver.

We install the compressors selected for the application according to the usage on the engine. At this time, brackets may be added to aid in the installation of the compressor, or it may be mounted directly to the engine on mounts provided by the manufacturer. We also complete belt installation, hose connections, and electrical connections.

Every system is thoroughly pressure-checked for leaks. The Trans/South team uses pressurized nitrogen to ensure seals at potential leak areas in condensers, evaporation fittings, and switches.

After installation is complete and the system passes the nitrogen pressure test, the system is evacuated to manufacturer requirements and charged accordingly. Our team operates the system to ensure it’s fully functional and all components are working properly. Charge plates are placed in the bus for customer reference.

Our experienced team conducts a thorough cleaning and quality assurance check before delivering the bus to the customer.
